300Mbps ‘Super 3G’ Floated

3G is a bit old hat in Japan. It’s been available commercially there since 2001 thanks to the dominant mobile provider there, NTT DoCoMo.On Friday, NTT DoCoMo started talking to the world about where they see the standard evolving to. Named in an almost 1970s tribute 3G has a anticipated maximum download speed of 300Mbps.

Sprint Nextel Bets $5 Billion on WiMax

Under its new WiMax agreement with Clearwire, Sprint Nextel expects the two partners’ WiMax build-outs will be reaching as many as 100 million potential customers by year-end 2008, with Sprint providing WiMax coverage to 70 million people and Clearwire to 30 million. Google’s AdSense To Distribute Videos

Google announced Thursday that videos will be distributed to numerous Web sites served by AdSense, which places targeted advertising across the Internet. AdSense signed a similar distribution deal last year with MTV Networks. Media Rights Capital will work with Google to target Web sites most appropriate for its content, the company said.

Space Hotel sees opening 2012

“Galactic Suite”, the first hotel planned in space, expects to open for business in 2012 and would allow guests to travel around the world in 80 minutes.
Its Barcelona-based architects say the space hotel will be the most expensive in the galaxy, costing $4 million for a three-day stay.

Microsoft presses FCC on vacant TV airwaves

Microsoft Corp. Monday will try to convince U.S. regulators that vacant television airwaves can be used for wireless services without interfering with broadcast signals, The Washington Post reported.The unused TV airwaves would be available for other services by early 2009, when broadcasters are due to switch from analog to digital signals.
